Recently, there has been much discussion around my kitchen table with the men I work with in ritual, in regard to "safe" ritual sex and some good points have been raised. For example, is the physical Great Rite - the penetration of the High Priest into his working partner in the craft -that symbolises the sacred union of the Goddess and the God, valid if the High Priest wears a condom? Personally for myself, I believe that the Great Rite should be celebrated without any protection, two flesh becoming one in sacred sexual union. However, there are men out there who disagree and I can accept and understand that totally.

So how can we make ritual sex, both sacred, enjoyable and safe? One of the ways we can do this is by the adoration rite of the male sexual organ by way of a dildo. This is not something new, as in the Cult rites of the Greek and Roman God Priapus, the central altar of the temple had placed upon it, a phallic symbol, which was an erect penis, carved out of wood or stone. This phallic symbol was the manifestation in the temple of the erect sacred penis of the God and the young women of the Cult, the Virgins,  before they became married, usually on the eve of their wedding day, would sacrifice their virginity to the God by sitting on the sacred phallic symbol and allowing it to enter their vagina. The virginity was taken by the Divine and that selfless offering was of great blessings.

In gay ritual sex, in a modern and ideal world, we need to practice safe sex, esp' if many men are present in a ritual and are taking part. The consecration of a good lifesize and realistic dildo is a wonderful and valid way to work with sacred ritual sex. In the Rite of Cernunnos, that I have composed and more of this rite is mentioned on another page on this website, the High Priest requests Cernunnos to flow through him and the High Priest after sexual stimulation, ejaculates the sacred semen for all to share in and drink. I can wholly understand some refusing to partake of such ritual, drinking into their bodies, the semen of another man. In light of this, I have recently composed a wonderful liturgical celebration of the adoration of the penis, the physical manifestation in the world of men, of the power and life flow of our Celtic God, Cernunnos.

The consecration of a dildo is a highly complexed ritual, as once consecrated, the dildo, becomes on the altar, the representation and the sacred manifestation of Cernunnos. The dildo, is consecrated using a combination of the High Priests semen, sacred mystical Sigil's which are traced ritually onto the dildo with the semen, consecrating with Karnayna Incense, mixed with dried oak leaves and oak bark and the ritually insertion of the dildo into bare earth for a whole lunar cycle.

Once the dildo is fully cleansed and consecrated, it is then in the ritual circle, "charged". In the sacred circle, the High Priest asks Karnayna to bless the dildo, so that it may become a sacred manifestation to His men, of His mighty powers and physical expression in the erection of men. The dildo is then anointed with sacred oils and finally the final invocations to Cernunnos are made, asking Him to become the dildo and to dwell in the dildo. The dildo is then, from that moment on, placed in the North position of the altar and is known as "The Spear of Power".

The Spear of Power is then used in safe ritual sex, for worship, eg, ritually kissing and sucking of the Spear of Power..as the rite says of paying homage to the Spear of Power " Thus do we , as in the days of old, worship the pillar of life, with kisses of my lips, Thee do I anoint and worship. Thou art the King of Glory, the life force that flows through men, the living tower of true joy".  The Spear of Power can also be used for Ritual Penetration; in place of the ritually drinking of the High Priests semen, the High Priest may hold the Spear of Power for the men to sit on and to be enpowered with the blessings of Cernunnos; man and God uniting and becoming one in a mysitcal, sacred act, filled with pleasure and joy.

I hope that the above is of help to many men out there, who have felt unable to fully enjoy ritual sex, due to the concerns of safety in regard to STD's. Finally, enjoy ritual sex, it is there to be totally enjoyed, and it is truly a blessing from the Gods and Goddess. Ever remember, that all acts of pleasure are their rituals.

Blessed be as always
