The Cernunnos Rite

The Cernunnos Rite is used for gaining from Cernunnos strength, healing and may also be used at Imbolc for aid in the fertility of the land. The Rite usually takes place at the Drawing Down of Cernunnos, those who attend the HomoMoot workshops witness this ritual on the workshop. The Rite is a male bonding rite and one that empowers men. The Rite begins, whereby the High Priest invokes Cernunnos to descend through his mortal body and the High Priest places upon his body, the Royal Robes. The Royal Robes are where the real legs and feet of a Mutjac deer are tied with leather straps to the legs of the High Priest; his shoulders draped with the skin of the deer. Upon the High Priest's head, a real deer skull and full set of antlers is placed. The Rite of Cernunnos is sexual and very powerful and can be done alone; although as it is a male bonding rite, it should be celebrated in the company of fellow men within a ritual Circle.
